CORBIÈRE (Tristan). Les Amours jaunes. Paris, Glady frères, 1873. In-12, covers bound in black leather of various patterns, with pieces of beige and fawn calfskin applied to the front cover, embossed with the title and decorated with eyelets and rivets, plain, unmarked spine in garnet calfskin with visible stitching on bands of the same embossed calfskin, linings in russet velvety pigskin, untrimmed, with cover, slipcase and case (Jean de Gonet, 1992). A sought-after first edition. The frontispiece features an original etching by the author, believed to be a self-portrait. One of 481 copies on Holland paper, the sole print run apart from 9 copies on jonquil paper; this copy is neither numbered nor signed by the publisher. Tristan Corbière’s only collection of poetry, *Les Amours jaunes*, was not a success upon its publication. Corbière died two years later, aged twenty-nine. It was Verlaine who brought the poet to the attention of the general public in 1884, by devoting a chapter to him in his *Poètes maudits*. Huysmans also helped to make him known by placing the work in a prominent position in Des Esseintes’ library. Elegant binding by Jean de Gonet. Minor marginal losses on the back cover.
