Description
FLAUBERT (Gustave). Through Fields and Along the Shores (A Journey through Brittany). Paris, G. Charpentier & Cie, 1886. In-12, red half-maroquin with corners, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine, edged slipcase (J.-P. Miguet). First edition, accompanied by unpublished miscellaneous writings and fragments.

This account of the long journey undertaken by Gustave Flaubert and Maxime Du Camp in May 1847, ‘with rucksacks on their backs and iron-shod shoes on their feet’, through Brittany, Normandy and the Loire region, was co-authored by the two friends, with Flaubert writing the odd-numbered chapters and Du Camp the even-numbered chapters.
A copy expertly prepared by Jean-Paul Miguet.
Minor losses to the spine of the cover.
Vicaire, III, 734 – Carteret, I, 271 – Clouzot, 122.
