Description
HENNIQUE (Léon). Élisabeth Couronneau. Paris, E. Dentu, 1879. In-12, brown percaline Bradel binding, plain spine decorated with a cold-stamped fleur-de-lis, blue title label, untrimmed (contemporary binding). First edition. A fine copy belonging to Guy de Maupassant, with this autograph dedication signed on the half-title page: ‘To Guy de Maupassant, his friend, Léon Hennique’. Maupassant and Hennique had met in April 1877 in Médan, at Zola’s house. Both members of the Médan group, they each contributed a short story to *Les Soirées de Médan*, the famous naturalist anthology published in 1880. In 1882, Maupassant dedicated his short story *La Rampailleuse* to Léon Hennique. From the libraries of Jean-Marie Moulin (2003, no. 138) and Jean-Claude Delauney (2018, no. 235), with bookplates. Scattered light foxing.
