HEREDIA (José-Maria de). *Les Trophées*. Paris, Alphonse Lemerre, 1893. In-8, brown morocco, double gilt rule and a wide Greek fret pattern in red morocco interwoven with gilt foliage as a border, spine decorated in the same manner, six gilt lines on the inner edge, red moiré endpapers and linings, double endpapers, gilt edges, cover and spine, edged slipcase (Semet & Plumelle). First edition of the author’s sole collection, one of the pinnacles of the Parnassian movement.
First retail print run, following an extremely rare print run of 10 non-commercial copies, produced at short notice for the members of the jury of the Académie française. The ‘printed’ stamp is clearly dated 29 December 1892, with the title in red and black. A third edition appeared the same year with additions on p. 196, and a fourth in in-12 format.
One of 100 copies on Holland paper, numbered and initialled by the publisher.
A superb copy in a mosaic binding by Semet and Plumelle.
