Description
HUGO (Victor). *La Légende des siècles*. First series: *Histoire – Les Petites Épopées*. Paris, Michel Lévy, Hetzel & Cie, 1859. 2 volumes in-8, half-blond calf, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, gilt head, untrimmed (Ottmann). First French edition of this seminal collection, published on the same day as the Belgian edition ‘banned in France’. It was not printed on high-quality paper.
These two volumes form the First Series of this collection; a New Series of two volumes was published much later, in 1877, followed by a fifth and final volume published in 1883.
A very fine copy in contemporary bindings signed by Ottmann.
The typographical error on p. xvi has been corrected.
A few pinholes on the edges.
