LORRAIN (Jean). *La Damnation de Pierrot*. A fantasy opera in three acts. N.p., 1884. Manuscript comprising 18 folios and approximately 90 blank folios. In-4, garnet-coloured Russian leather, triple blind-stamped raised band, small interior lace trim, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A precious, complete autograph manuscript of the first and only published act of a verse comedy set in a park at dusk, against the backdrop of a revolutionary crowd. This text was published in *La Revue moderniste* on 12 December 1885 and in the poetry collection *Griseries*, published in 1887. The manuscript is carefully written in red and black on the front of the red-ruled leaves. It contains variations from the final text. Set against the backdrop of a Louis XVI-style garden in the moonlight, Jean Lorrain brings to life the charming Pierrot and the unsettling Man in Black; distant songs of the People can be heard, and we are presented with a blood-soaked vision of a livid Cydalise and a deceased Léandre. An autograph dedication signed by Jean Lorrain to Madame Camille Bloch, dated 30 December 1884 in Fécamp. The journalist and feminist activist Louise Debor, née Louise Debora Nettre (1869–1923), wife of the historian and archivist Camille Bloch (1865–1949), championed the cause of women in *La Fronde*, Marguerite Durand’s newspaper, and in lectures. From the library of Joël Dupont (1940–2024), former curator of the Barbey-d’Aurevilly Museum in Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, with bookplate. Spine slightly faded, edges slightly rubbed, a few light foxing spots.
