Description
STEVENSON (Robert Louis). The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll. Paris, Plon, n.d. [1890]. In-12, purple half-maroquin with corner pieces, double gilt fillet, spine decorated with panels formed of a mosaic band of beige maroquin and gilt fillets, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine (Semet & Plumelle). First edition of the first French translation, by B.-J. Lowe, of this famous Gothic horror novel published in English four years earlier. It is followed by the short story ‘A Night’s Lodging’, in which Stevenson features the poet François Villon. A very fine, beautifully bound copy. Spine very slightly faded; small losses to the back of the preserved cover.
