APOLLINAIRE (Guillaume). *Le Flâneur des deux rives*. Paris, La Sirène, 1918. In-16, black Jansenist box, filleted edges, mauve box linings, edges gilt on endpapers, cover and spine (Huser). First edition, featuring a photographic portrait of the author.
This is the second volume published in the ‘Collection des Tracts’ by La Sirène.
One of the first five copies printed on china paper, numbered and signed with the author’s initials.
Extremely rare on this first paper.
Structured as a personal and biographical journey, *Le Flâneur des deux rives* distils, as it winds through the streets and squares, the scent of nostalgia for a natural Paris of the past, lost in the meanderings of modernity. An Apollinian work in which the poet’s deepest affection for Paris is expressed. This wandering only takes on its full meaning in the company of kindred spirits. Apollinaire thus invokes the illustrious Balzac as his literary father and Baudelaire as his poetic genius, ‘one born in the age of Voltaire, the other in that of Victor Hugo’.
