Description
ARAGON (Louis). *Le Paysan de Paris*. Paris, Gallimard, 1926. Small quarto, Plexiglas cover decorated with an aerial view of Paris showing ploughed fields crossed by the Seine, plain spine decorated in garnet morocco, blue paper endpapers and linings, blue head edge, untrimmed, cover and spine, slipcase (Mercher). First edition. One of the 109 limited-edition copies reprinted in quarto format on laid paper. A personalised copy printed for Marcel Revillon d’Apreval. A cult classic, this poetic narrative plays a fundamental role in the founding of Surrealism. Aragon (1897–1982) would confess, not without pride: ‘I am a one-of-a-kind figure; not everyone has written *Le Paysan de Paris*. ” A sumptuous ‘speaking’ binding by Henri Mercher (1912–1976) using Plexiglas, a revolutionary technique developed by the bookbinder in the 1950s. From the Raoul Simonson library, with bookplate.
