[AUGIÉRAS (François)]. CHAAMBA (Abdallah). *The Old Man and the Child*. Complete edition. Paris, Minuit, 1954. In-8, paperback, untrimmed, in a cream-coloured glossy paper slipcase ([Julie Nadot]). First complete edition, bringing together in a revised version the text of the various pamphlets published at the author’s own expense by François Augiéras from 1949 onwards. This is the first edition of *The Old Man and the Child* printed on large-format paper. One of 35 copies numbered on Bellegarde vellum, the only edition printed on large-format paper. ‘It is well known that Gide was particularly taken with this story and its mysterious author. It was thanks to Gaston Criel, who had been his secretary, that the work, after being rejected by the leading Parisian publishers, was entrusted to Éditions de Minuit.” (Henri Vignes).
