Description
BRETON (André). The Surrealist Manifestos, followed by Prolegomena to a Third Surrealist Manifesto, or Not. Paris, Éditions du Sagittaire, 1946. In-8, blue half-basane, upper cover decorated with red and blue basane collages, three photographs of an eye and painted highlights, plain, unmarked spine, cover and spine (Unsigned binding). A collective edition, partly in its original form, reprinting the first two Surrealist Manifestos of 1924 and 1929, followed by ‘Prolégomènes to a Third Manifesto’, previously unpublished. A signed copy from the author: to Gaston Puel, his friend André Breton. The Castres-born poet Gaston Puel (1924–2013) met André Breton, René Char and Joë Bousquet at the time of the Liberation. He became closely associated with the Surrealist group in 1947, before distancing himself from it in 1953, whilst remaining on good terms with André Breton. A most unusual binding adorned with a Surrealist collage. From the library of Julio Mario Santo Domingo Braga (2012, no. 70).
