BROCH (Hermann). *Der Tod des Vergil*. New York, Pantheon Books, 1945. In-8, black and orange percaline Bradel binding, red head (publisher’s binding). First German edition of Hermann Broch’s (1886–1951) masterpiece, published in the United States, where the Austrian writer had emigrated after the Anschluss with the help of his friend James Joyce. The novel had first appeared in English translation, published in the same year by Pantheon Books.
Autograph dedication by Hermann Broch on the white endpaper: ‘Für Ilse Zechner zum Geburtstag 1945 mit guten Wünschen’.
