Description
MONTHERLANT (Henry de). Funeral Song for the Dead of Verdun. Paris, Grasset, 1925. In-4, white vellum, covers decorated with interlaced blue and red fillets, inner border framed in the same style, plain spine decorated with the title in calligraphy and blue and red bands (two blue and one red) arranged vertically along the full height, black headband, cover and spine. First edition, featuring a frontispiece after Ligier Richier, a headband after Germain Pilon and a tailpiece after Albert Dürer, all wood-engraved by L. Bertault. One of 300 copies printed on Madagascar paper, the only large-format paper used, reprinted in in-4 format. Enclosed is a letter of thanks from Henry de Montherlant to a critic (who remains anonymous – but is easily identifiable by searching the *Revue*) for a review in *Belles Lettres*.
