Description
RÉGNIER (Henri de). Les Médailles d'Argile. Poems. Paris, Mercure de France, 1900. In-12, brown morocco, author’s name and title in gold lettering underlined by a triple gold border, interior framing with a double gold border, interlacing blind-stamped borders at the corners, edges gilt on endpapers, cover and spine (G. Cretté). First edition. One of 29 copies on Holland paper (no. 23). Autograph dedication signed by the author: for A. van der Vrecken de Bormans, accompanied by four autograph lines from the poem *La Conque* (p. 97). This copy is enhanced by: – a signed autograph letter from Henri de Régnier to the poet Laurent Tailhade, dated 9 February 1900, concerning revisions to the submission of his poems, on his own behalf and on behalf of his father-in-law José-Maria de Heredia (3 in-12 pages mounted on a tab, in violet ink, envelope attached to an interleaved page); – a visiting card with two lines of handwritten thanks to Mr Van der Vreken de Bormans (6 x 10 cm, in violet ink, envelope attached, all mounted on an interleaved page); – three poems from the work, copied in the author’s own hand (double pages in-12 mounted on a tab opposite the printed pages): *Portraits de mains* (p. 230), ‘The Hunter’ (p. 232), and ‘The Gallant Emigrant’ (p. 241). The latter two bear the general title ‘La Corbeille des Heures’ in these manuscripts; – an autograph poem comprising five quatrains, entitled *Les Roseaux de la Flûte / La Veillée* (two double pages in-12 mounted on tabs at the end of the volume). Binding slightly rubbed.
