Robert Boname (1906–2005), an aeronautical engineer and graduate of the École Centrale, was technical director of Air France Transatlantique for transatlantic test flights from 1937 to 1939. In 1937, he was specifically tasked with fine-tuning the Latécoère 521 seaplane, for which Henri Guillaumet commanded the crew responsible for the test flights.
Saint-Exupéry and Boname spent a great deal of time together, particularly in New York during the war, where they jointly assessed various plans for a landing in France.
A valuable copy with an exceptional aeronautical provenance, signed by both the author and the person to whom the novel was dedicated.
