Description
KIPLING LONDON. Gold-plated metal onion-shaped watch, with a white enamelled dial featuring baton hour-markers and a railway-track minute track. Cock-shaped movement signed ‘Geo Clarke London’ and numbered. London, 18th century. Inner case diameter 40 mm. Metal outer case with imitation tortoiseshell, original wooden carrying case lined with morocco leather. Chips and losses to the enamel, missing crystal, signs of wear, in need of servicing, movement in need of restoration.
Georges Clarke (1725–1766) was a renowned London clockmaker based on Leadenhall Street, whose creations were often intended for the Ottoman market, particularly in Turkey.
