Description
A torso depicting a dancing satyr, with his left arm raised. The musculature is finely rendered and a slight twist of the torso lends it a highly naturalistic appearance. On the back, a carved block was intended to reinforce the left leg. This piece is reminiscent of the Dancing Faun from the House of the Fauns in Pompeii. White marble. Roman art. 1st–2nd century. Height: 46 cm. Total height: 63 cm. Probably repolished. Restoration to the left shoulder and buttock. Provenance: a collection in the Gironde, acquired in the early 20th century.
