Description
VAN DE VELDE Adrien (1636-1672) "Study of a woman seated on a stone wall". Sanguine on paper, 25x15 cm. Pitting This study is part of a series of life drawings often with the same model, some of which have survived (Hermitage, British Museum, Museum Fodor Amsterdam). Ref: Catalogue of the exhibition 1974 Flemish and Dutch Drawings of the XVIIth century p.159, N°115. Expert: Mr Jean-Marie LE FELL, expert C.N.E. (38 rue de Trévise 75009 PARIS - 06.03.23.08.53. - [email protected]) A painter and aquafortist baptised in Amsterdam, Adrien VAN DE VELDE was a remarkable landscape painter. He also painted genre scenes, battles and many of his fellow painters. These included Hobbema, Van der Heyden and Verboom. In order to perfect the details of anatomy, the artist produced a series of "après nature", often with the same model. The study "Woman seated on a stone wall" is the result of this series. Some of these are now in the Hermitage Museum, the British Museum and the Museum Fodor Amsterdam. Additional photos available on request from the studio ([email protected])
