Description
(Dauphiné) – SOUCHIER (Miss Adèle). *Les Roses du Dauphiné*. Poems. Lyon: Nicolas Scheuring, 1870. Bound inside (p. 80), with a signed autograph quatrain. Unsigned original drawing as frontispiece. Adèle Souchier (1832–19??), a native of Romans-sur-Isère, refused to leave her homeland despite her friends’ urgings to go and try her luck in Paris. ‘My noble Dauphiné, nothing is as beautiful as you! ’ she exclaimed in one of her poems. She was strongly supported by Joséphin Soulary, who had noticed her early poems published in newspapers. She left behind several collections of verse as well as a novel, also set in the Dauphiné region. EXTREMELY RARE.
