In-16, [4 ff ], 216 pp, dark contemporary calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, hinge and upper cap rubbed. Paul Colomiès, a 17th-century French scholar, presents here his reflections on his ‘vast reading’. This is the selection of a ‘man of integrity’ known and loved for ‘his moderation and his affable manner’. ‘My intention is not to discuss every sort of book here, but only a few of those pertaining to the fine arts, or which have been, and still are today, the delight of our scholars’. As well as lengthy commentaries, this book is full of anecdotes and witty observations.
