Pistol with belt hook, 18th century Navy, North Africa. Miquelet-style lock with powerful spring and lengthwise grooved reed cover. Bassinet, hammer, lock and steel hook. Bronze trigger guard, cap (without ring), mouthpiece ring and counterplate. A sturdy, reliable civilian weapon of oriental origin. Barbaresque? Wood in good condition, with a few minor dents and cracks. Metal with slight surface corrosion (which has been treated). Diameter 17.7 mm.
