Description
Manufacture Nationale de SEVRES, based on a design by Jacques Emile RUHLMANN (1879–1933) and a decorative scheme by Anne-Marie FONTAINE (1900–1938). ‘Ruhlmann No. 3’ vase with a flared neck, in glazed porcelain, decorated with stylised golden foliage in a feather-like pattern against a cloud-like background of pink, white and sky blue. Signed ‘AM Fontaine’ on the base. Rests on a square bronze plinth, revealing the Sèvres mark ‘S. Sèvres – Manufacture Nationale – France’. Circa 1930. Total height: 21.5 cm. An exceptional example of the collaboration between two great artisans of the Art Deco movement, this model, a paragon of elegance and finesse, is also characterised by its Japanese-inspired influences, both in the subject matter and in the treatment of the decoration.
