[ENLUMINURE]. Leaf extracted from a manuscript (Heures or Heures-Psautier?). In Latin, illuminated manuscript on parchment. Northern France ? second half or last quarter of the 13th century. Dimensions: 142 x 97 mm Leaf from a liturgical Psalter or Hours-Psautier, 20 lines per page, Gothic script in dark brown ink, endpapers with ornamental motifs in red and blue ink or burnished gold (sometimes fleur-de-lis motifs), small initials painted in blue or burnished gold with filigree decoration in red or blue ink, three larger initials in burnished gold on pink and blue backgrounds with white highlights (2 lines high, marking the major divisions of the text). Very good condition. Text: recto, Psaume 118 :31-32 ; Psaume 118 : 33 " Legem pone michi... " ; verso, Psaume 118 :41-48, " Et veniat super me... " ; followed by Psaume 118 :49-50, " Memor esto verbum... ". This leaf comes from a thirteenth-century psalter or hours-psalter, which must certainly have been quite luxurious given the finesse of the writing and the quality of the decoration. Stylistically, it is similar to psalters generally attributed to workshops in the north of France. These include psalters such as the one associated with the bishopric of Thérouanne (Psalter-Hours of Brother Guimier, Baltimore, Walters Art Museum, MS W. 47, last quarter of the 13th century) and several other psalters associated with northern France or Flanders. A recently sold psalter has a similar layout and line ends (Paris, Drouot, Kapandji-Morhange, 13 February 2019, lot 83: Flanders or northern France, circa 1250-1280).
