CAMUS (Albert).
L'Homme révolté.
Paris: Gallimard, [1951]. - In-16, 184 x 116 : 382 pp, (1 f.), printed cover. Black half-maroquin with bands, smooth spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, edged slipcase (Alix).
First edition of this essential work by Albert Camus, which explores the themes of murder and revolt.
Despite its critics, the author considered it one of his favourite books: "It's a book that made a lot of noise, but which earned me more enemies than friends (at least the former shouted louder than the latter). (...) Of all my books, this is the one I hold most dear... I only wanted to retrace an experience, my own, which I also know is that of many others" (Interview by Guy Basset for the Société des études camusiennes on L'Homme révolté).
One of 260 numbered copies on Papeteries Lafuma-Navarre vellum paper, the second paper after 40 on Hollande Van Gelder.
A very fine copy bound by Alix.
First white leaf browned, probably by the prière d'insérer which no longer appears in the copy.
