Étampes: Maurice Dormann et Cerf, 1927. - In-4, 330 x 253: XII, 369 pp, (5 ff.), 11 plates, printed cover. Paperback, filled cover.
First edition, printed in an edition of 650 copies, of this work considered to be the finest book ever published on trout fishing.
The author offers an exhaustive study of trout: classification, anatomy, habitats, instinct, etc., as well as a detailed analysis of fishing techniques - bait, influence of external conditions, equipment, entomology, artificial fly fishing, natural insects, worms, minnows (natural and artificial), and finally sport fishing.
"In the absence of other qualities, I believe that my book will be original in that the practice of fishing will be destroyed by the very habits of the fish. This method at least has the advantage of providing a reasoned theory of fishing. What's more, it forces the angler to constantly seek an explanation for the facts he observes, and this is an exercise from which he can expect to derive the greatest benefit" (foreword).
The edition is illustrated with numerous full-page and in-text black compositions by Cousyn and Clérin, as well as 11 superb colour plates, each accompanied by a descriptive leaflet, by Clérin, Daumain and Faddegon.
One of 600 copies on Dujardin paper (No. 582).
A well-preserved copy, largely uncut.
Some light foxing on the cover and the first two leaves. Sections 6 to 11 are partly unbound.
