Rare first edition of this remarkable fully screen-printed artist's book, featuring 5 colour illustrations by the Italian painter and illustrator Gianni BERTINI (1922-2010), three of which are pop-ups and one with moving elements.
Edition of 112 copies on Arches vellum, signed by the author and artist at the justification.
This copy is justified "Avant la lettre" and contains a suite of original illustrations by Bertini, as follows:
- Silkscreen on which is inscribed the word "Suites", with collage. On the verso this autograph dedication: "For Nicole. Gianni." Nicole was Jean-Loup Philippe's first wife.
- Original gouache silkscreen, signed by the artist and dated 1990.
- Silkscreen print cut out, pasted and enriched with the design of a wide strip with a red chequerboard motif, dedicated "Pour Nicole", signed and dated 1992.
- Silkscreen print on double page, enhanced, signed and dated 1992 by the artist.
- Double-page proof of one of the silkscreens in the book, signed and dated 1992 by the artist.
- Avant la lettre" proof on grey paper, with gouache highlights, of one of the double-page silkscreens from the book, justified "epr. avnt la lettre" and signed by Bertini.
- Original ink drawing on tracing paper with additions on white paper, depicting a caricature of the Tour de France riders, entitled Les Tours de France, in which 19 cyclists are represented by phalluses on their bikes, including Chiapucci, Poupou, Anquetil, Bobet, Merz, Coppi and others.
- Two double-page screen-printed plates, humorously depicting a succession of phalus, on bicycles, winged, on fish, birds and so on.
