Description
[ARCHIVE] [ITALY]. [NAPLES] and [SPAIN]. [CATALONIA]. Application of the measures provided for in the will of Raymond de Cardona (Ramón Folch de Cardona-Anglesola) (1467-1522) in favour of Ferdinand de Cardona (Ferran Folc de Cardona i de Requesens), confirmed in his office of "capitan general de todos los mares". In Latin, on parchment. Italy, Naples, 1522 and additions in 1524. Large parchment deed, cursive script in brown ink, notarial seal, traces of red wax seal (missing). Dimensions: 530 x 480 mm On the back, analysis in Spanish: "Instrumento de la posesion de capitan general de todas las mares...tomada en persona del Illustro Don Fernando de Cardona almirante de Napoli". Further analysis on a paper sewn to the back of the deed. Ramón Folch de Cardona-Anglesola, Count of Albento and Duke of Soma (born in Bellpuig, province of Lleida in 1467 and died in Naples in 1522) was a Catalan officer and sailor who served as viceroy of Sicily and then grand admiral and viceroy of Naples (1510-1522). He married Isabelle de Requesens, who became viceroy of Naples: we still have a famous portrait of her by Raphael (or Giulio Romano?) (Paris, Musée du Louvre). On his death, the remains of Ramón Folch de Cardona-Anglesola were taken to his home town of Bellpuig and placed in a marble mausoleum designed by the Italian sculptor Giovanni da Nola. This building is still one of the most imposing in Spain.
