First edition of this work considered to be one of the most important of its time on the history of the peoples of Asia. Joseph de Guignes (1721-1800) was a famous Orientalist, secretary-interpreter of the Royal Library for Oriental languages, professor of Syriac at the Collège de France and then keeper of the antiques at the Louvre. In this work, he offers a new approach to the history of Asia by reconciling the accounts of Western historians with those of Chinese and Muslim writers.
