In leaves, filled cover, publisher's slipcase. Beautiful edition illustrated with 20 original colour etchings by Alexander CALDER (1898-1976), featuring the artist's favourite subjects such as snakes, waves, the sun, starfish, the moon, etc. Limited edition of 220 numbered copies on Rives vellum paper, signed by the author and artist at the justification, those with odd numbers being in the original version and those with even numbers in the French translation by Marcel Duhamel. "This book is considered to be the final work by Alexander Calder, who died on 11 November 1976, just a few days before publication. The final print is dated 15 November, but Calder had signed the books and plates already printed" (éditions Maeght). One of 140 copies numbered from 61 to 200, this one in the original version, bearing the number 77. Some foxing inside the slipcase.
