SCHMIED (François-Louis) - ESCHYLE. Prométhée enchaîné. Paris: Société des Médecins Bibliophiles, 1941. - In-4, 329 x 260: (2 blank ff.), 107 pp. (4 last blank ff.), illustrated cover. Fawn morocco, boards decorated with distinct geometrical motifs in black and mustard chagrin and grey buffalo, gilt lightning bolt on first board, smooth spine, black velvet lining, fawn velvet endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, slipcase (Anick Butré 1996). Edition of Prométhée enchaîné in the translation by Paul Mazon, illustrated with 39 compositions by François-Louis SCHMIED (1873-1941) wood-engraved by his son Théo, including the mark of the Société des Médecins bibliophiles at the head, 17 full-page figures, 20 in the text and the ornament on page 111. This was the last work by François-Louis Schmied, who died on 19 January 1941. The edition will be printed in the spring of this year. Limited edition of 150 copies on Arches wove paper. This one bears the number 106, specially printed for Dr G. Bellucci. A very fine copy bound by Anick Butré in 1996. Provenance : G. Bellucci.
