A Napoleon III-era mantelpiece set in Boulle marquetry with a tortoiseshell (Eretmochelys imbricata) veneer background, stained vermilion comprising a clock with a dial bearing the inscription ‘Au Nègre Sarazin’ in Paris and a pair of bowls. France, last third of the 19th century H. 38 and 21 cm (chip to the dial) BIODIVERSITY EXPERT: Mr Pierre Grignon Dumoulin, court-appointed expert at the Amiens Court of Appeal, approved assessor for works of art made from materials derived from biodiversity. Specimen made from material derived from a protected animal species (Eretmochelys imbricata), classified as I/A under CITES/EU. Current IUCN status of the species: Critically Endangered (CR) – approximately 8,000 females worldwide. Specimen meeting the definition of a worked antique, dating from before 3 March 1947, in accordance with the terms of Regulation (EC) No 338/97.
