Description
A rare set comprising a ceremonial sword of the KSF (Knights of Sherwood Forest) and a late 19th-century forest rite necklace. Ceremonial sword adorned with symbols associated with a fraternal organisation known as the Knights of Sherwood Forest, with an engraved blade. The Order of the Knights of Sherwood Forest was founded in 1879 in St Louis; its members held a rank affiliated with the Foresters of America. They were described as a group that was both ‘benevolent’ and semi-military—even wearing uniforms—within the Foresters. This rank was recognised as the second level of the organisation by the Philadelphia Subsidiary High Court in 1883. At that time, the Knights had around 1,700 members spread across 50 subordinate conclaves, under the authority of a Supreme World Conclave. The order ceased to exist in the early 1920s.
