Description
BATAILLE (Georges). *Mesures*. *L’Amitié* by Dianus. Paris, José Corti, 1940. In-8, paperback, plain black cover. First edition comprising the offprint of the journal *Mesures*, issue no. 2 of the sixth year, containing Georges Bataille’s article. Dianus is the literary alter ego used by Bataille, inspired by the mythological figure of Dianus, the king of the woods, and also an anatomical allusion. The journal, which appeared from 1935 to 1940, was financed and edited by Henry Church, with the assistance of Jean Paulhan. Adrienne Monnier initially handled its distribution, followed by José Corti. This issue consists solely of Bataille’s text, spanning pages 131 to 150. Autographed copy signed by the author: ‘From one to the other, to Georges Hugnet’.
