BATAILLE (Georges). *Les Larmes d’Eros*. Paris: Jean-Jacques Pauvert, 1961. In-8, square format. First edition, illustrated with numerous reproductions drawn from the entire history of art. Autographed copy sent to Mr and Mrs Roger Secrétain: ‘This incongruous yet serious book, which demanded a great deal of care on my part.’ Roger Secrétain (1907–1982), a member of the Resistance, was a newspaper editor, politician and writer. Michel Surya confirms that “this book demanded such a great effort on his part that he kept postponing the deadline month after month (it took him two and a half years to write a book he had planned to finish in a few months)”.
