BATAILLE (Georges). *L’Archangélique*. Paris: Nouveau Cercle parisien du Livre, 1976. Folio, loose-leaf, untrimmed, with the publisher’s folder and slipcase. Partly original edition illustrated with 10 magnificent colour etchings by Jacques Hérold.
One of 150 copies on Arches vellum, signed by the artist.
Georges Bataille’s poems are accompanied by a text by Patrick Waldberg, which highlights the close friendship between Bataille and Hérold since they first met in 1935: “Is it not true that Bataille’s poetry and Hérold’s art are animated by a tremor of the same nature, one that arises from the perpetual, anxious oscillation between these two poles: trembling and grace?”
