Description
[DALÍ (Salvador)]. Dalí Paints the Invisible Straight From Nature. Exhibition catalogue. Lithograph on cardboard. New York, Julien Levy Gallery, 1936. This catalogue was produced to mark Salvador Dalí’s solo exhibition at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York in 1936.
Its cover depicts a hairy female figure, whose face is replaced by an open drawer. Two breast-shaped compartments protrude from the bottom edge of the page and are held in place by press studs. Opening them reveals accordion-folded panels, each displaying six reproductions of works by Dalí.
The reverse lists 21 works featured in the exhibition, including 12 drawings.
All surviving copies now show signs of wear or damage due to this opening mechanism.
