ÉLUARD (Paul). *Chanson complète*. Paris, NRF, 1939. In-4, paperback. First edition. Press copy on *vélin du Marais* paper. Autograph dedication signed by the author to his friend René Magritte on the half-title page. Copy accompanied by: - two postcards (14 x 9 cm) addressed to René Magritte: one captioned ‘Ponts de la Vallée de la Cure’ on which three other bridges have been scribbled by hand, with a prose piece by the author on the reverse entitled ‘L’homme et les ponts’, the other showing the “Porte aux Cariatides in Fréjus”, with news from the author on the reverse, written in Mougins and dated 15 August 1938. - a signed autograph letter from the author to ‘[his] dear friend’ [René Magritte] dated 24 July 1941 (1 p. in-4). He discusses the preparations for Magritte’s exhibition and says he hopes to persuade the bookseller [of the bookshop “La Peau de Chagrin”], a young and kind friend, to cover the costs himself, given the importance of this exhibition. Furthermore, he would like Magritte to produce a gouache for his copy on Japanese paper of Raymond Roussel’s book: *Comment j’ai écrit certains de mes livres*… - the wedding announcement for Maria Benz (known as Nusch Éluard) and Paul Éluard, dated 21 August 1934 (13.5 x 17 cm).
