ÉLUARD (Paul). *Dignes de vivre*. Published by Les Éditeurs des Portes de France, Porrentruy, 1947. Large 8vo, paperback, untrimmed, cloth-bound cover. First edition illustrated with twenty original woodcuts by Théo Kerg.
A copy on vellum, featuring an autograph dedication signed by Paul Éluard: ‘To Luc Decaunes, who knows that the underside of things is always above our heads, Paul Éluard’.
A poet closely associated with the Surrealists, Luc Decaunes (1917–2001) became Paul Éluard’s son-in-law by marrying Cécile, his daughter, whom he had with Gala. An admirer of Éluard’s work, in 1965 he wrote the first major biography of the poet, which he revised and expanded in 1982.
Attached is a copy of the October 1982 publication of this biography, *L’amour, la révolte, le rêve*, published by Balland.
