In-8, black half-maroquin with bands, covers decorated with a design featuring effects of perspective and transparency, consisting of a central circle and three intersecting planes, inlaid with glossy black, sky blue, navy blue and cream, smooth spine, light blue matt paper endpapers, black paper endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine, slipcase and case (P.-L. Martin, 1961). First edition.
One of 19 copies on Lafuma pure-fibre vellum, the only large-format paper; this copy is not for sale.
Written largely whilst in captivity and published in 1946, *L’Apprenti* draws on Raymond Guérin’s youth, in which he transformed his time spent in the grand Parisian hotels into a coming-of-age novel.
