KAHLO (Frida). Typewritten letter to Julien Lévy, signed ‘Frida’ and bearing a lipstick kiss. Coyoacán, 10 April 1943. A beautiful and moving, proofread letter to Julien Lévy, of whom she says ‘every one of [his] letters is the nicest of all’. She enthusiastically accepts the idea of an exhibition in New York in a year’s time, hosted by the man she affectionately calls “kid”, but adds, “the later the better because I’ve been painting very little recently (...) I’m teaching at an art school, so I spend the whole morning there and only paint in the afternoons; so, in reality, I have very little time”. She has spoken to Diego Rivera about this project “and he’s keen too”. She recommends Antonio Ruiz’s paintings to him, but cannot comment on Olga Costa’s. She thanks him for selling one of her paintings: “Baby, you made me so happy selling that painting of mine, because I didn’t have a damn cent.” Has he heard from Marcel Duchamp? “Have you seen Marcel? How is he? Give him my love (...) I kiss your magnificent eyes and you know I adore you as always. Frida”. Enclosed, framed with the letter, are two small photographic portraits of her, each measuring 40 x 50 cm, period prints, stamped on the reverse ‘La Ansco, Mexico’ (Coyoacán, 10 April 1943, 1 p. in-4). The set is presented in a beautiful wenge wood frame.
