A writer associated with Dada and later a fellow traveller of Surrealism, Pierre de Massot (1900–1969) is best remembered for having his arm broken by André Breton during the tumultuous ‘Cœur à barbe’ soirée in 1923, an episode symbolising the split between the Dadaists and the Surrealists.
