One of the earliest copies printed on two-colour coated paper, featuring an autograph note in green ink by André Breton on the cover: ‘Mr Gradiva 11.11.1937’. The gallery that Breton opened in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1937 was named Gradiva, after the heroine of the short story by the German writer Wilhelm Jensen, *Gradiva: A Pompeian Fantasy*. André Breton finally closed the gallery at the end of February 1938.
