First edition illustrated with four original erotic photographs by Man Ray, inserted as separate plates and mounted onto the pages. Kiki de Montparnasse’s involvement in this work has been mentioned. Founded in 1928 by Paul-Gustave Van Hecke and E. L. T. Mesens, the journal *Variétés* was one of Europe’s leading modern art journals, open to Surrealism, experimental photography, cinema and the decorative arts. It brought together major figures such as Benjamin Peret and Louis Aragon, as well as René Magritte, Max Ernst, André Breton, Paul Éluard, Man Ray and László Moholy-Nagy. One of 160 copies printed at Montval. A very rare copy of this booklet produced for Paul-Gustave Van Hecke’s Belgian magazine *Variétés*, almost the entire print run of which was seized and destroyed by French customs. The first page is blank and slightly sun-faded.
