Description
[PIEYRE DE MANDIARGUES (André)]. MORION (Pierre). *The Englishman in the Locked Castle*. Oxford & Cambridge, n.p., 1953. In-8, paperback, red half-shagreen cover, slipcase edged in the same material. First edition of this novel by Mandiargues, with layout by Hans Bellmer, which was banned on 20 June 1955.
A print run of 350 copies, not for sale.
A precious autographed copy signed by the author to André Breton: ‘To Breton from a very friendly Morion’ and, on the ‘printed’ page: ‘coronation day / and fuck the Queen of England’. This copy is indeed dated 2 June 1953, the date of Elizabeth II’s coronation.
Following his meeting with Breton in 1947, André Pieyre de Mandiargues began to take part in the activities of the Surrealist group.
