ROLLINAT (Maurice). *Neuroses*. Paris, Charpentier, 1883. In-8, red morocco, framed by a triple gilt fillet, decorated spine, inner frame of a gilt fillet set with two blind-stamped fillets, red morocco lining, black silk endpapers decorated with brocaded red motifs, gilt edges on endpapers, cover (Noulhac). First edition of Rollinat’s most striking collection, the archetype of the Decadent poet, brimming with doubts and anxieties, macabre figures and satanic visions. ‘ More Baudelairean than Baudelaire himself, [he] refines even the strangest sensations” (Stanislas de Guaïta, Preface to *Roses mystiques*).
Adorned with a frontispiece portrait of the author by F. Desmoulin.
One of 50 copies printed on Holland paper, the only large-format paper used.
This copy is enhanced by two further engraved portraits of the author, one by Desmoulin, the other unsigned and in five states.
