Jérôme Mesnager (born 1961) Untitled 2024 Acrylic on panel, signed and dated lower left 60 x 39.5 cm A student and later a teacher at the École Boulle, Jérôme Mesnager was one of the founders, in 1982, of ‘Zig-Zag’, a group of young artists who would zigzag through the streets creating graffiti. A year later, he created the ‘Man in White’, or ‘White Body’, ‘a symbol of light, strength and peace’ – a recognisable, articulated silhouette that he has reproduced all over the world. Among the themes of his work are love, joy and elation, but also sadness and conflict, “everything that constitutes human emotion”.
