LA LANDE (Joseph-Jérôme Le Français de). ABRÉGÉ D'ASTRONOMIE. Paris, Veuve Desaint, 1774. In-8 marbled fawn calf, spine gilt, gilt title, red edges (contemporary binding). Upper headband frayed, beginning of a split at the spine ends and at the title box, epidermis skilfully restored, 3 corners dulled, ink stain in the upper margin of the first 11 leaves fading but not affecting the text, light wetness in the inner corner of the last leaves and plates. FIRST EDITION of this abridgement of the Treatise on Astronomy published in two quarto volumes in 1764. 16 folding plates engraved on copper by Pierre-Claude Delagardette. Plate II is a superb representation of an armillary sphere.
