Pieter Brueghel the Elder (after) (c. 1525–c. 1569)
Milites requiescentes (Soldiers at Rest). (One of a series of 12 large landscapes). c. 1553–1556. Etching and engraving by Jan and Lucas van Doetecum. 425 x 310 mm. Lebeer 12; Hollstein 17; New Hollstein (Bruegel) 58. A fine print on thin laid paper, trimmed with a square edge but with the plate fully intact. Extensive remnants of an old backing sheet on the reverse. A strip of reinforcing paper along the right-hand edge on the reverse. Several small holes, tears, creases, stains and thinning.
