Toyen (Marie ?ermínová, known as) (Czech, 1902–1980)
Plate for *La Forêt sacrilège*, followed by *L’Ombre Sagittaire*, *Le Temps en Blanc*, *Premiers poèmes* and *Réincrudation*, Paris, Le Soleil noir, 1970. Drypoint engraving on copper. 100 x 150 mm. Bevelled, with rounded corners. Inscriptions engraved with a point at the bottom (indicating the end of the print run): ‘Drypoint by Toyen’ followed by ‘For *La Forêt sacrilège*, year of printing 1970’. Contained in a white vellum envelope bearing a proof taken from the copperplate prior to these annotations. Normal soiling.
The proof from this copper plate forms part of a set of six engravings published as inserts in the book; the book itself was printed in an edition of 99 copies on Arches vellum, whilst the proofs were printed on green silk.
