Description
The LUTs (originally three in number) were umbilical towers (115 m high) used for the launches of the Saturn V lunar rockets. These fragments are the remains of the LUT-1 tower, which launched, amongst others, Apollo 11, before being dismantled. The piece of red rubber comes from the large seal at the end of one of the tower’s arms (between 3 and 7 cm).
APOLLO 11 – Crew: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins (16 July 1969–24 July 1969)
